Classes for Adults and Children

FUNKe FIRED ARTS  is excited to offer classes in hand-building, wheel-throwing, and sculpture.   These classes take students through the entire sequence of steps required to go from wet clay to a glazed and fired finished product.  Our philosophy is that if you learn the basics very well, you will be able to make anything with practice.  Our standard classes are geared for adults.  The minimum age is 16-years-old.  We also offer a wide variety of specialty classes each session.  Please take a look at our selections for February which are listed below the table.  Join Us!

Please scroll down to the bottom for information on Field Trips and Corporate Outings!!

Classes are offered in a 6-week cycle throughout most of the year, covering the following areas of instruction:

Hand-building I Hand-building II Wheel-throwing I Wheel-throwing II Wheel-throwing III
Large, coil-built pots, Surfacing techniques, Slip application, Hard and Soft slab construction, and Slab sets. The goal of Handbuilding II is to refine and further develop skills learned in Handbuilding I.  The forms you will be able to create will be nearly limitless once you’ve perfected the technical aspects of building with coils and slabs. Learn the basic the working on the wheel. Class will focus on Throwing cylinders, Trimming,
Pulling handles, Lidded vessels, and Bowls.
Refining throwing technique. Learn various centering techniques and explore shaping.  Vessels will include larger Cylinders and Vases, Bowls, and Plates. While looking at sculptural forms, students will learn to step out of traditional forms. Students will also learn to expand upon the basic forms to construct well-crafted, complex forms.
